A flamingo is a migratory bird that spends winters on Cyprus’s salt lakes — a place that offers safety, nourishment, and strength before the journey home.
This symbolism resonates with us. It reminds us of the lives of many Slovaks abroad who’ve tied their path to another country for family, study, or work. They grow, learn, and gain experience — but their hearts remain connected to Slovakia.
Our school is called Flamingos because of this symbolism — and because Cyprus is where we were born, grew up, and still have our base.
Flamingos is here for everyone who carries the Slovak language with them into the world — a safe place to grow linguistically and culturally, to maintain contact with Slovak roots, and to feel at home for a little while. We equally support foreigners who’ve made Slovakia their new home.
We help them learn the language and culture so they feel welcome and can integrate more easily.
For us, Flamingos symbolise cooperation, belonging, and mutual support. Education is a shared journey. Working closely with parents, teachers, and the wider community, we help children and adults develop their language skills, build a relationship with Slovak, and gain a deeper understanding of Slovak culture.

At the Flamingos online school, we help children maintain and develop their Slovak even if they grow up outside of Slovakia.

We know younger children need time to adjust to a new way of learning. Parents are welcome to sit with them at the beginning, encourage them, and provide emotional support until they feel confident and begin working independently.
